Among the positive effects: new found life for Emory University’s Haygood-Hopkins Gate (full history here ), designed by legendary Atlanta architect Philip Shutze. Originally constructed in 1937 to straddle what is now Mizell Drive, the gate suffered three decades of abuse from high-topped trucks before being moved to its current and more “ceremonial” location.
