Former Playboy Playmate, Girl Next Door, Mansion resident, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant and Hugh Hefner’s girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson appeared at Outwrite Bookstore Thursday night to sign her new memoir, ‘Being Kendra.’

She arrived right on time, was ushered through the crowd by security, and answered a couple of questions…

Someone asked, ‘What advice do you have for writing a book?’ ‘Um… write. Think of it like a journal and write. Yeah.’ Since Jared Shapiro, a ghostwriter who has worked with Perez Hilton, actually wrote the book (it says his name right on the cover), she probably should have asked him.

A fellow blonde yelled out, ‘Kendra, will you have drinks with us after?’ ‘Girl…. I wish I could. Well maybe at Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles, I’ve been wanting to go there!’

‘The Stranger You Seek’ Kills in Atlanta [LOCAL READS]

The Stranger You Seek Kills in Atlanta [LOCAL READS]

Author Amanda Kyle Williams worked at a PI firm in Atlanta on surveillance operations and became a court-appointed process server before contributing freelance articles to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Now she’s written her debut crime novel set in Atlanta, ‘The Stranger You Seek,’ that’s already skyrocketing in sales…

In order to lend authenticity to her Keye Street series, Amanda took courses in criminal profiling and practical homicide investigation, and frequently consults with professionals in law enforcement, bond enforcement, criminal profiling and forensics.

“We do what we have to do to buy the groceries while we’re waiting for that big break. Working as a process server and with PI and courier firms in Atlanta was wonderful preparation for developing the Keye Street character,” Williams says.

“It takes time and work to find that unique voice as a writer, and for that voice to reach pitch. And more time to then develop a character that’s the perfect vehicle for that voice.

Keye Street is that character for me.  She’s slightly damaged, seriously flawed; a sober alcoholic with a mighty Krispy Kreme doughnut addiction.  She makes jokes to avoid intimacy.  She’s more afraid of heartbreak than she is of whipping out her ten millimeter Glock.  She feels real to me.  The series is dedicated to my deeply southern Chinese-American niece, Anna.”

‘The Stranger You Seek’ is Amanda’s first mainstream crime novel and the first in the Keye Street series. Book Two will come in the Fall of 2012, ‘Stranger In The Room’ and Book 3, ‘Don’t Talk To Strangers,’ in Fall 2013. Williams lives in Decatur, which she says produces unending fodder for her fiction.

- Amanda Kyle Williams signs copies of ‘The Stranger You Seek’ at Charis Books and More this Thursday, September 22nd.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s Debut Novel ‘Monday Mornings’

Dr. Sanjay Guptas Debut Novel Monday Mornings

Every time surgeons operate, they’re betting their skills can beat a brain tumor, a faulty heart valve, a clogged artery.

Sometimes, they’re wrong. At Chelsea General, surgeons answer for bad outcomes at the Morbidity and Mortality conference, known as M & M. This extraordinary peek behind the curtain into what is considered the most secret meeting in all of medicine is the backdrop for Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s first novel coming out in March.

Monday Mornings‘ follows the lives of five surgeons as they push the limits of their abilities and confront their personal and professional failings, often in front of their peers at M & M.

A practicing surgeon himself, Gupta provides a unique look inside the high-pressure world of medicine, and paints a vivid picture of the method by which surgeons often learn – through their mistakes.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is also the author of ‘Cheating Death’, which hit the New York Times bestseller list, and ‘Chasing Life’, which made the New York Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. Combined, his books have sold over 100,000 copies.

Dr. Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon at Emory University and Associate Chief of Service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He’s a columnist for Time magazine, Chief Medical Correspondent at CNN, and the host of the half-hour weekend show, ‘House Call with Dr. Sanjay Gupta.’ He is also a contributor to 60 Minutes and appears regularly on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. In 2011, Dr. Gupta was on Forbes’ ’10 Most Influential Celebrities’ list.

Kendra Wilkinson Comes to Outwrite [SNEAK PREVIEW]

Kendra Wilkinson Comes to Outwrite [SNEAK PREVIEW]

She’s the star of the hit reality series ‘Being Kendra‘ on E! and the former star of ‘Girls Next Door‘ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Kendra Wilkinson’s first book, ‘Sliding Into Home,’ was a New York Times bestseller. Now she’s back with ‘Being Kendra: Cribs, Cocktails and Getting My Sexy Back‘ out today. Kendra comes to Outwrite Bookstore on Thursday, September 29th…

Here’s a sneak preview of ‘Being Kendra’…

“I had never watched the show, so I didn’t know Louis from Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They said, ‘His name is Louis Van Amstel and he’s the one that’s gay.’ I was so relieved, like someone had lifted a hundred thousand pounds off my back, because I worried that Hank [Baskett] would be jealous or uncomfortable that I was grinding with a straight guy.

Five days a week grinding with Maks – I can’t imagine Hank would have been happy with that. I said, ‘I’m so happy I got the gay one! That’s awesome,’ but Louis gave me a look when he heard that! He took it the wrong way. I was happy he was gay because I’m a target of tabloid speculation, and magazines are always trying to say I cheated or Hank cheated. So there’s wouldn’t be any issues there.

But it started off awkward because I said that.”

- Kendra Wilkinson appears at Outwrite Bookstore on September 29th at 7:30 p.m. This is a VIP Line Ticket event. Tickets are free and available with purchase of book in store, or online at OutwriteBooks.com. Order early to get the best place in line and guarantee booksigning.
