Dwight Eubanks Arrested in Atlanta for Driving with Suspended License

Turns out that right after we interviewed him Wednesday night at CNN Dialogues: LGBT, former Real Housewives of Atlanta and Purple Door Salon owner Dwight Eubanks went out and got himself arrested. You can see he’s wearing the same outfit in the mugshot above (and working that camera) as he is in our interview below…
“Officers were patrolling the area of Freedom Parkway and Boulevard on Wednesday, December 14 when they saw a Chevy Tahoe with the driver’s side headlight out, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee told the AJC on Monday.
They stopped the vehicle and spoke to Eubanks, who told them he did not have his license with him, the spokesman said. When authorities checked, they found out his license had been suspended, Chafee said. He was arrested and charged.”
Hopefully Dwight will learn from his mistake. As he told us during the interview, ‘When you know better, you do better.’
His court date is scheduled for February.
Do you think Dwight should have been arrested?

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed was forced to answer public questions over his handling of the recent Occupy Atlanta arrests at a town hall-style meeting at Saint Mark United Methodist Church last night. Reed was on hand to discuss the 2009 raid on the Atlanta Eagle , a gay bar, alongside the Atlanta Police Department’s LGBT Advisory Board and APD head Chief George Turner. But several of the open floor questions centered on the mayor’s decision to revoke an executive order allowing Occupy Atlanta protesters to remain in the city’s Woodruff Park beyond an 11 p.m. deadline and the subsequent arrests of… >>

U.S. Rep. John Lewis joins brief challenging federal gay marriage ban

Georgia’s own U.S. Rep. John Lewis has joined more than 100 members of Congress in a legal brief arguing that part of the Defense of Marriage Act, the ban on federal recognition of same-sex marriage, is unconstitutional. “The stories of people in long-term relationships who are denied the right to act on their partners’ final requests are heartbreaking,” Lewis said in a press statement today. “If a state provides the right for gay and lesbian citizens to marry, the federal government should not bar their ability to receive any of the rights and privileges given to any… >>

We are the 99 percent, too

Early Wednesday morning, the Atlanta Police Department, acting on orders from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, arrested 53 Occupy Atlanta protesters who defiantly remained in the city’s Woodruff Park beyond an 11 p.m. curfew. During an early morning press conference, Reed said that the city was forced to take action against the protesters after Occupy Atlanta organizers attempted to host a free hip-hop concert in Woodruff Park over the weekend without a proper security plan.
