‘Flashdance: The Musical’ Comes to The Fox Theatre Before Going to Broadway
‘Flashdance’ tells the story of Alex Owns, a working-class girl from Pittsburgh striving to make her dreams of becoming a professional dancer a reality. She works by day at a steel mill, where she catches the eye of her boss Nick Hurley.
By night, she works as a ‘flashdancer’ at a local bar, but longs to become a student at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy.
The original Paramount Pictures film became a worldwide smash hit and a pop culture phenomenon. It grossed over $150 million and its soundtrack won Grammys. ‘Flashdance: The Musical’ features many of the same hit songs, including the Academy Award-winning title song, ‘Flashdance – What A Feeling,’ ‘Maniac,’ ‘Gloria,’ and ‘I Love Rock & Roll.’
16 new original songs have been penned for the stage production by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary.
In addition to the U.S. tour, a second company will be assembled for the creatively re-worked production of ‘Flashdance,’ and will begin performances on Broadway in August 2013.
- Tickets for the pre-Broadway engagement of ‘Flashdance’ go on sale October 19th at 10 a.m. and plays February 5th – 10th, 2013. Visit the Fox Theatre box office or FoxATLTix.com/flashdance or call 1-855-ATL-TIXX.
