Now that the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta‘ is in full swing, we wanted to see what Kim Zolciak has been up to.
One of the three original cast members (along with NeNe Leakes and Sheree Whitfield), Kim opened up to us about her family, living in Atlanta, and of course, ‘Tardy for the Party’…
Your Halloween “Kim Zolciak costume” video is too funny. What did you go as for Halloween this year?
I loved doing that video for the Dish about my Halloween costume! I was actually in Las Vegas at the Mirage performing.
I had been traveling so much that I hadn’t had time to get a Halloween costume together, so I just rocked my wig and a VERY small black dress!
What are some of your favorite places in Atlanta?
I love Twist. I’ve been going there for years – they’re like family to me. I used to work at Bahama Breeze 12 years ago and still love their food.
I go to Age Management for my facials and micro-dermabrasion, but I need a new spa because my favorite esthetician has left there!
I love Opera. If I’m feeling kind of wild I’ll head there on a Saturday night.
How long have you lived in Atlanta, and where did you grow up?
I’ve been in Atlanta for 11 years, but traveled up and down the east coast throughout my childhood. I spent 13 years in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, though.
My dad was in the Navy, so we were constantly relocating.
I saw you perform ‘Tardy for the Party’ in New York City at Splash with Andy Cohen and was almost trampled! Are you surprised by your gay fan’s excitement when they see you perform?
That performance of ALL my performances really brought me to tears. Thousands of people were there with lines outside!
I was overwhelmed and honored by their response to me. I will never forget it.
Were you surprised at the success of that song, or did you know it would be a hit?
I knew the second I heard Kandi’s version that it was going to be a hit. It was catchy with a really great beat.
I am so thankful that it turned out so great!
Who are some of your favorite musical role models?
I’ve loved Madonna ever since I can remember. I think Lady Gaga is great as well.
We recently met your family on the show. Your mom said you chose “fame over family,” but you seem especially close to your daughters. Do you agree with your mom’s statement?
I am super close with my daughters. What my mom means is I don’t spend much time with them (my parents) or my other family members because I’m either at home with my girls or traveling. She understands, though.
I am the soul provider for my girls, therefore I have to work and work a lot!
I’m sure you heard about your White Party backup dancer Steven Daigle getting arrested in West Hollywood at the Abbey during their ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ viewing party. I had actually interviewed him about the episode that morning, and you were right across the street at Eleven Nightclub when it happened. Anything you want to say about it?
I saw everything happen. I was really caught off guard, but it happens and I wish him the very best.
My gay friends love the snippet of your ‘Google Me’ single. How did you come up with that idea, and when will it finally be out?
‘Google Me’ was thought of by a friend and myself. EVERYDAY some shit comes out about me and I am Googling myself, so we thought it would be funny to write a song about it.
The song will be on iTunes I hope very soon!
Anything you want to say to your gay fans in Atlanta?
I love my Atlanta gays, and I am forever grateful for their constant encouragement and support.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing a book on ‘How to Land Your Man’ that will be out in the Spring.
