CNN cancels John King’s show

Lasting just over two years, CNN’s “John King USA” has been axed. King never really pulled in particularly good ratings at 7 p.m., then 6 p.m., falling behind Fox News and MSNBC. CNN is putting him back in the field as the network’s national campaign correspondent. Wolf Blitzer’s “Situation Room” will get an extra hour and will now air from 4 to 7 p.m. The general consensus among viewers was he lacked distinction. This is what Bob Fernad , a former president of CNN, thought in 2010: “John’s a fine journalist but he doesn’t stick to the wall,” he said. “He’s not… >>

CNN prime-time ratings hit a 20-year low

CREDIT: AP In mid-May, CNN had its lowest-rated ratings week in primetime in 20 years. An average of 395,000 viewers watched Piers Morgan and Anderson Cooper last week. As the knowledgeable Bill Carter of the New York Times noted : “CNN has seen its competitive position erode for several years without instituting significant changes in its overall approach. The network’s management has kept to its course of emphasizing news coverage and not the views of its prime-time personalities.” According to the Huffington Post , CNN’s… >>

Wolf Blitzer ‘pumped’ for tonight’s New Hampshire primary

For CNN’s Wolf Blitzer , a major primary in New Hampshire is like an NFL playoff game. But in his mind, it’s more like a wild-card game. “We have a long way to go,” he said, minutes before starting his “Situation Room” today at 4 p.m. at CNN Center in downtown Atlanta. “We have South Carolina and Florida coming up and a whole bunch of states in February. I’m not ready to call it.” And he doesn’t expect tonight to be quite like last Tuesday night when Iowa was a nail biter until 3:31 a.m. in the morning… >>
