Hannah Thomas, a 22-year-old native of Covington, Ga., has spent the last few years touring the East Coast and establishing herself as a mainstay on the local music scene. GA Voice sat down with Hannah to hear about the upcoming release of her 7th recording, two upcoming Georgia shows, her Indigo Girl connection and her big, gay announcement. Friday Riffs: What musical things are you anticipating in 2013?

8331Idol 300x200 Friday Riffs: What musical things are you anticipating in 2013?

For 10 days I’ve read the stories, heard the discussions and rolled my eyes at those who wonder if 2013 will be a “bad luck year” because of the number 13. Please. Some of us – including, famously, Taylor Swift – love the number 13. My birthday is the 13th of November. Dan Marino is my forever-favorite quarterback. I consider it the best luck ever if I draw a hotel room at a casino with the number 13 in it (sadly, a useless talisman most of the time). Hey, and guess what else? I have two black cats! Just send me off to Salem… >>

Tyler Perry has earned a slew of   “Razzie” nominations, including both “worst actor” and “worst actress” for his role in “Alex Cross” and “ Madea’s Witness Protection.” Here’s a link to our interview with Perry to discuss “Alex Cross.” In the Madea movie he appears in wig, dress and body padding as his wise-cracking, gun-toting alter ego. The Razzies also nominated Perry for worst director for “Good Deeds” and “Madea’s Witness Protection” and Perry and “his drag getup” for worst screen couple. Ouch. The Razzies really don’t like him, do they? (In case there’s any… >>

Billy Crystal and Bette Midler in a still from “Parental Guidance” Remember landlines? Remember how people used to call home and Mom and Dad would pick up on different extensions, then crack each other up and finish each other’s sentences during the call? That’s sort of what it was like talking to Billy Crystal and Bette Midler by phone at the same time. “We’re like a pair of old shoes,” Crystal said during the interview in advance of “Parental Guidance,” which was filmed in metro Atlanta and hits theaters on Christmas Day. “We fell into each other. CREDIT: Rodney Ho/[email protected] Season four runner up and Alabama native Bo Bice recently moved to Covington with his family from Nashville. We’ve been in touch since 2005, more than seven years now. He’s always been a class act. A few weeks back, Alex Gillespie – a publicist from day one with “American Idol” – asked me if I knew of “Idol” contestants who live local. I came up with three that I figured were local: Vanessa Olivarez (season two), Anoop Desai (season and Bice. I found out why she asked… >>

Madison Lintz’ stint on the AMC series “The Walking Dead” ended with a shuffle and a bang. Her character, the newly zombified Sophia, lurches toward her former loved ones and gets shot in the head as those who cared for the pre-zombified Sophia sob in misery. “The makeup was gross,” she told us during an interview this week. “The fake blood and the prosthetics were kind of disgusting.” As soon as the hair and makeup folks glammed her back up, though, she headed for an audition for the Bette Midler-Billy Crystal comedy “Parental Guidance” and got… >>

John Goodman’s character in “Flight” offers some much-needed levity. John Goodman appears in just a few scenes in the made-in-Atlanta movie “Flight, ” in theaters Friday, but his is the quintessential small but powerful role. “It was nice just to see how much I could get away with, ” the jocular Goodman said during a recent interview. Alejandro Escovedo plays the Variety Playhouse Sunday, Oct. 21. Photo: Todd Wolfson FRIDAY Swans “Swans Are Dead” was the title of the career-capping 1998 live album from this artfully pounding post-punk outfit led by Michael Gira. And that’s the way it seemed until 2010’s “My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky,” which bound the band’s elegant thud to meditations on the spiritual. Gira followed it with the recently released “The Seer,” a double-disc set funded by the limited edition “We Rose From Your Bed With the Sun in Our Head.” These works… >>
