Directed by Kenny Leon, who often works with the Alliance Theatre, ‘The Mountaintop’ tells the story of the days leading up to Martin Luther King’s assassination.

Jackson plays Dr. King and Angela Bassett plays a motel maid, a role that was originally going to Halle Berry until she had to pull out for “child custody reasons” according to her rep.

Jackson told the ladies of The View this morning that he heard Dr. King speak several times when he was a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

He even flew to Memphis for the funeral, then flew back to Morehouse where he was an Usher at a local funeral held at the college.

‘The Mountaintop’ was the name of Martin Luther King’s last speech before he was assassinated.
