Public Art: The Beltline Was Yarn Bombed by the Knitterati (Decode Below)

Click here to view the full photogallery. Are you aware of the latest trends in non-destructive artisan graffiti ? What’s that you say…you’ve never even heard of non-destructive artisan graffiti, much less any news on its latest trends? Us either, until now. The Knitterati are eight in-town Atlantan knitting and crochet enthusiasts who took it upon themselves to get a grant from the Beltline to deploy some tactical yarn bombs on a leafy portion of the trail on the Westside. We couldn’t possibly explain it any better than The Knitterati’s leader did to the Sweet Peach… >>

Department of Public Health: The Smog In Atlanta Is Even Worse Than It Appears

[Looking north on I-75 at the smog over downtown, credit FreeLancePhotog1 via wftv.com. ] As the high pressure and cool nights of early fall have a clearing effect on Atlanta’s skies , the smog of summer fades from consciousness and onto the back burner once again. But as the seriousness of the problem grows more acute, the economic malaise is keeping the federal government from taking action (remember that story last month about the Obama Administration’s decision not to tighten air quality rules?) Per current EPA standards, Atlanta violated the maximum concentration of ozone limits 39 times this past summer. But… >>

Arch Digest Edition It’s an Architectural Digest kind of day over on Curbed National, where they’re taking a look at a $26.5M California manse that was built for the pub’s founder, Colleen Knapp. Then there’s a roundup of listings that have been featured in the mag, including the Florida home of designer Campion Platt. Former Marietta Mayor Weighs In on Transit: Among those weighing in on TSPLOST…
Among those weighing in on TSPLOST and the potential addition of more rail to Atlanta’s transit infrastructure is former Marietta mayor Bill Dunaway. He makes the salient point that no single project is going to instantly solve all of Cobb (or anywhere else’s) traffic problems, and knocks down some of the same unfortunate scare-mongering that kept MARTA out of Cobb County in the 1960′s. To Dunaway’s point, courage and vision can be in short supply in times like these; can the metro Atlanta area muster some? [Marietta Daily Journal] >>

Photo credit Mali Azima via Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles .] It’s news to no one that folks in the interior design business tend to live in immaculately decorate d spaces. Department of Weighty Issues : Your Tri-State Water Wars Update

[Lake Lanier, the resevoir that supplied the water you drank and bathed in this morning. Image via Southern Environmental Law Center .] With the transportation debate hogging all the attention, one could be excused for almost forgetting that Atlanta is facing another massive infrastructure challenge : water. In short: there’s not going to be enough of it for everyone in the metro Atlanta unless: a) the city and state build some new reservoirs; b) Alabama and Florida blow everyone’s minds and unilaterally drop their claims to a share of the daily release from Lake Lanier into the Chattahoochee River; or c)… >>

Animal Weddings of Note: Midtown Atlanta loves itself some…

Midtown Atlanta loves itself some dogs, and also weddings; it was only a matter of time before a high-profile dog wedding came to pass. The Barkworld Expo- a social media conference for dog lovers- is in town this weekend (of course it is) and these canine nuptials are the grand finale. Discuss. [Midtown Patch] >>

On the Market: All Things Considered, It Really Doesn’t Seem Like This Grant Park House Should Be This Inexpensive

Click here to view the full photogallery. This one’s a bit of a stumper: perfectly nice, fairly new construction craftsman in Grant Park. 3 beds, 2 baths in the main house and a really nice 1/1 above the garage. Downtown views , walking distance to the Grant Park restaurants and literally across the street from the park. Playset for the kids and lifetime membership to the Glenwood Park Pool included. Priced at $350,000 , which they claim is $60k under appraisal. Assuming that is true…we know the market is depressed and that Atlanta Avenue could be viewed as a busy street, but still… >>

Curbed-y Events Happening This Weekend: The first crisp air of fall…
The first crisp air of fall is on its way and the timing couldn’t be better, as excellent two outdoor events are upon us this weekend. Friday night, the one-night-only arts festival FLUX 2011 will take over the streets of Castleberry Hill. This is reputed to be among the coolest events that happens in Atlanta and it’s only 4 hours long, so plan accordingly. On Saturday night the Vinings Jubilee (in, you guessed it, Vinings) is throwing itself a 25th birthday party , replete with food, drink and a free concert from Yacht Rock Schooner . Get out and enjoy fall while… >>
