Photo: Phil Skinner, [email protected] Yes, it’s that time again. Let’s talk about pizza. It’s been almost two-and-a-half years since we last asked about pizza in Atlanta, so we definitely need to update this one. It’s said that even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. But why eat bad pizza when there’s so much good stuff out there? First, we need to know where to find that amazing pizza. That’s where you come in. Whether it’s thin and crispy or thick and chewy, we want to hear about your favorite place for a slice (or a… >>

Best meat-and-three (or -two)

3545silvergrill 06 Best meat and three (or two)

Photo: Hyosub Shin, [email protected] When you want Southern home cooking, but there’s no one to make it for you, what do you do? That’s where the traditional meat-and-three cafeterias and restaurants shine. These days, you might not always get three vegetables. In some places, it’s more a meat-and-two. Of course, you can usually go for all vegetables or side dishes and forgo the meat entirely. These spots are perfect for folks who are missing mom’s home-cooked meals, or for those whose moms weren’t such great cooks. It’s also a perfect place for visitors to… >>

Best french fries

Photo: Brant Sanderlin, [email protected] It seems like such a simple thing. Potatoes cut into long sticks of varying thickness, then deep fried and salted. We all know it isn’t that simple, though. The variables make all the difference in the world. What oil do they use? How long (or how many times) are they fried? What kind of potato do they use? How thick are the potatoes cut? All of these factors and more contribute to the ultimate success of a french fry. They’re on more menus than just about anything else, but not everyone gets them right. Who… >>

Friday Riffs: Your favorite Jackson 5 song could net you a DVD

70dbJACKSON 5 CARTOON DVD BLU RAY SET 244x300 Friday Riffs: Your favorite Jackson 5 song could net you a DVD

Come on, admit it, you spent more than a few Saturday mornings back in the day watching “The Jackson 5ive” cartoon series. Maybe you caught it in its original run in the early ‘70s, or maybe you’re from the Michael Jackson-as-solo-star era and watched the show when it was rebroadcast in 1984-85 to capitalize on Michael’s popularity. Well, the entire series, including 46 remastered songs (and yes, “ABC,” “I’ll Be There” and “The Love You Save” are among them) has just been released on Blu-Ray and DVD, and thanks to our friends at Morris + King… >>

Justin Bieber: The prince of the pop machine brings spectacle to Philips

Behold…the Biebs! Photo: Robb D. Cohen/ www.RobbsPhotos.com It’s amusing – and a little sad – when you consider how Beyoncegate has incited so much finger pointing from the Transparency Police about her choice to sing the national anthem to a pre-recorded track (not lip-sync – there is a difference) at Monday’s presidential inauguration. Those bothered by this incredibly common practice have branded her with a scarlet F (for fake). Yet we live in an era when that practice by our pop stars isn’t only accepted, but expected. Justin Bieber is a prime example. The kid… >>

So Beyonce didn’t sing live — so what?

2282159835129 So Beyonce didn’t sing live — so what?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post’s poll. OK, everyone, relax. So Beyonce sang to a track of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Monday’s inauguration. Shrug. Whitney Houston once did the same at the Super Bowl and her rendition of the same song remains one of its most iconic versions. And let’s not forget, at the 2009 inauguration, famed celloist Yo-Yo Ma and other musicians pre-recorded their performances two days earlier and played along during the ceremony. It’s January in D.C. It’s cold. Strings break. Instruments crack… >>

Ellie Goulding lights up a sold-out Tabernacle

Ellie Goulding…not about to sneeze, but to sing. Photo Credit: Robb D. Cohen/ www.RobbsPhotos.com The second the houselights dropped, the chanting began as if at a pep rally. “El-lie. El-lie. El-lie.” The sprite-like Ellie Goudling might not possess the vocal prowess of Adele or Emeli Sande or some of her other U.K. peers, but she’s clearly tapped into something that speaks to legions of twentysomethings – including the 2,500 or so at Friday’s sold-out Tabernacle show, the third date of her U.S. tour. It didn’t matter if you could barely… >>
